(bum) - Lots of talent comes out of Vancouver. Take, for example, the progressive indie band Bend Sinister. They beat out 450 other contestants in January to win third place in the Peak Performance Project 2009. Who are these guys? They take their name from a Vladimir Nabokov novel. Singer-songwriter Daniel Moxon founded the group in 2000 with three high school jazz band mates. In the beginning, their music was entirely instrumental. Today, their sound is indie rock. Several members have gone their own way over time (to go back to school, get married, etc.) Ten years later, Daniel Moxon has seen 10 to 15 musicians come and go. He is now playing with musicians who have been around for the last two years. Here’s an interview with the band’s original member, leader singer and spokesman. He lets us in on a few of his inspirations, Emitt Rhodes and Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy).
